A modernised "kopi-tiam" that has been sprouting in almost every single popular township of Johor Bahru. Tea Garden has been around since 2005 and they serve local delicacies for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On top of that, one can be spoilt for choices with the vast selections of drinks and desserts available on the menu.. Today we headed out to one of the branches located at Taman Johor Jaya.

You must order their hainanese tea. It is good and if I'm not mistaken, it is a concoction of tea and coffee. A definite order on each visit for me.

There I have below, nasi lemak with the usual condiments, a sunny side up and rendang mutton. Meat was not too gamey in my opinion, but it was slightly overcooked and tough. The most irksome situation when chewing on mutton/beef is having tiny strips getting stuck in the gap between the teeth, and I had a little too many of it while munching on this mutton rendang. Negative points aside, the nasi is "lemak" enough to go very well with the rich, spicy rendang curry.

Indian rojak consists of an assortment of deep-fried ingredients that included the likes of beancurd, doughs, potatoes and etc. Topped with the rich gravy and crushed peanut crumbs, I will highly recommend this for a side dish or something to go with during tea-break.

Try out their Herbal chicken drumstick, with a complimentary bowl of rice. All that richness & essence from the herbs infused into the gravy, I'm optimistic any fan of the Emperor's Chicken 帝王鸡 would be delighted with this substitute. For the record, I enjoyed this thoroughly.

Hungering for some "ommpphhh" during the meal time ? The deep fried crispy chicken chop drenched in Thai sauce shall not disappoint, and more than competent to spice up one's palate.

Food: 7.5/10
Price: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Conclusion: Wide selection of food compared with the countless modernised "kopi-tiam" out there, and yet comes with competitive pricing. A place to go when you are in a dilemma over Western or Asian food. You are bound to find one that will tingle your tastebuds at Tea Garden. Highly recommended.
