Over the past weekend, I am fortunate to have my family with me on this exploration trip to MAIO, a well hidden gem tucked into the back seat of M Suites Hotel. I'm pretty confident not much Johoreans are aware of its existence, and hopefully not for long as it would truly be a waste for it to vanish from the local arena.

When one talks about Thai cuisine in Johor Bahru, there's only a few which surfaces in the head that will stir up my interest (and appetite). I had first hand experiences at restaurants in Taman Molek, Taman Gaya & JB city (*drums roll* yes, it's Carabao) and mind you, they aren't cheap. Affordability is a word one don't come across easily these days, especially in Johor Bahru. Sighh ...

I chanced upon the place couple months back, but am skeptical so it never brought about any second thoughts in me to pay a visit. As things would have it, stingy me spotted Groupon offering a deal at only RM25 for a fine Thai dining experience at Tera Thai. I jumped at the opportunity for a go at it, wonder how it will be ?

Today is my Dad's birthday celebration and I was pondering hard over where to host the dinner. To make it special, it has to be a place we haven't been to for a while or an entirely new place, and of course the dining experience has to be top-notch. Can't be too shabby, I thought. Took me a while to pluck out 2 places from the air, Ming Court @ M-Suite Hotel or Meisan @ Mutiara Hotel. Of course, the latter is famed around JB for its exquisite, delectable dishes and reasonable pricing. The former though, hasn't gained as much traction as Meisan in terms of popularity but one of their selling point is the seaview and ambience. Food wise, they have exhibited major improvements over the last time we were here.

This is my 1st ever invitation to a food sampling event ever since I started blogging in less than a year, and I have to thank both Eight Lido and Euginn (an enthusiastic and outgoing character) for the invite. Alot of people I met at the event asked me the same question, "What got you started into all the, blogging, food reviews, etc ?" and my reply was simple ... "I dine out frequently, have no qualms trying out new makan places (I know of people who aren't just adventurous enough to try something different) and in actual fact, I love exploring new makan grounds. Coinciding with the new found hobby of taking pictures, I thought it would be a good thing to get myself started, by blogging to share the passion I have for both food and photography combined. Afterall, what use is there if all that goodness in kept under lock & key, with nobody to share with and appreciate.

Was driving around Danga Bay area sourcing for new food joints when I came across this Malay restaurant, sandwiched between Tunes Hotel and the Volkswagen car showroom. It is out of sight and outshine by the row of beautifully renovated cafes fronting the main road along Danga Bay. Hidden in a corner, what caught me was the dinner crowd at this remote location. I told myself there must be something worth my digestion inside, otherwise there wouldn't be such a pack in this god-forsaken place.

Wanting to experience an authentic North and South Indian cuisine by the Danga Bay coastal line in Johor Bahru city, in a chic and modern spacious interior ? How about 7 Spices ? The usual adventurous me decides to head down and try out something different from the usual fares of Chinese, Western or Italian cuisine.

Decided to have Korean BBQ today as the weather is rather good after a downpour in the late afternoon. It has been a while since I've come back to this place as I prefer the other Korean BBQ outlet at Taman Pelangi. Food here is more expensive comparatively but ambience wise, this place is excellent for hanging out with colleagues after work or with a group of friends. You sit atop a hill, enjoying the breeze from the sea, alfresco style under a hut and beside a colonial house. A wonderful setting to let time creeps away, as you enjoy the food and company.

Anyway, let's get back to the food. They have lesser varieties on the menu as compared to some of the other Korean BBQ outlets around and they are priced more towards the premium end. In my opinion, the food are relatively ok, not something that will make you go "Wow" or go "Ewwww". It's just in between, neither good nor bad. This being the case, but on weekends you will see alot of Korean expats from our neighbouring country, Singapore dropping by for their dinner, either after a day of swing or shopping.
