This post on Kin Hua is definitely a late one, something which I have been wanting to write an article on, but never gotten the chance to do so. So I took this opportunity over the long weekend to start my heritage trail within Johor Bahru "old city". First stop, Restaurant Kin Hua. It has been around probably before me and my parents, operating at a corner shop by the junction of Jalan Trus and Jalan Tan Hiok Nee. Day in day out, it has attracted throngs of customers from within the town and tourists.

On some days, Kin Hua even has to expand their seating capacity to both sides of the alley, and you still get people waiting for a table. Everybody just sit-eat-pay and go. One don't get the luxury to slowly sip and enjoy their cup of traditional coffee without inviting stares down on you.

Unless you just placed an order, otherwise the eagle-eyed patrons would have spotted you and will hurry to your side, "hinting" you to leave at the soonest once you are done. Shameless I'm not, so I cleared my path out of the coffee shop once I'm done with the breakfast.

The crowds just couldn't stop pouring in, and it's already past breakfast hour when I was there over the weekend !

Traditional, aromatic & freshly brewed tea (teh-c) and coffee (kopi). Nothing beats this duo to kickstart my day, and its going to be a long day ahead for me.

Toasted bun with butter and kaya. Melting cold butter slice, sandwiched between a toasted bun with a crispy outer crust. Loving it !

If you prefer a crispier texture, then go for the roti slice with kaya-butter sandwiched between. Personally, I will go for the bun as it comprises a multitude of textures (crispy crust, fluffy bun and an ice cold melting butter).

For the non-roti/bun person, and has a big stomach for breakfast - Nasi Lemak. To up the level of shiok-ness, there are various options for add-on too and my favourite is the deep fried chicken.

Price: 8.5/10
Service: 6.5/10
Conclusion: Great brews, nostalgic atmosphere and an inexpensive price tag. What more can I ask for to jump start my weekend morning. The only downside to all these, not a place where you would want to have a long brekkie & have a chit chat session (aka la kopi). The waiting crowd can't wait to pounce on your table and chairs.
