Al-Azhar Eating House is located along a stretch of shophouses opposite Beauty World Plaza. Mamak-ing isn't exactly what I always wanted to try out while in Singapore. I always felt there's less burden on the wallet and get at least 50% off the price on the food, when I mamak in Johor Bahru as compared to Singapore.

However, I'm beginning to change my mindset when I visited Al-Azhar. The selections of food are massive and it certainly took me a while to decide what I wanted to order, and still tinkering with the idea of ordering a western food, roti john, murtabak and nasi lemak at the back of my head. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but hey that's because they just simply have too much selections to choose from that I can't set my mind on a single one.

I certainly like the drink that I've ordered. Milo Dinosaur. Why that name ? I have no idea, but they do give loads of milo powder on top of it. There's Horlick Dinosaur if you don't fancy milo. Definitely better than those that I've tried in Johor Bahru.

This is our appetizer, before we start on the main, Cheese Naan ! Nice amount of cheese melting on top of the naan, giving that bit of chewy bite. I like it :)

Chicken Tikka to go with the naan. Another of our appetizer, haha ! I don't exactly know how to describe the accompanying sauce they provided, its sour and with a pinch of herbs or mints in it. It's an acquired flavour, but I do not like it. The chicken looks tough and dry on the outside but on the contrary, its tender and juicy. Don't judge a food by its cover.

Nasi Pattaya, fried rice wrapped with egg omelette. Fares ok in terms of taste and look. Nothing fantastic. Would try their other nasi gorengs next time.

Ohhh...that last dish and worth mentioning is the maggi goreng. Sedap ! The instant noodle is cooked nicely and not too soggy, unlike some which I've tried before. Just the right amount of consistency. Taste good as well and they even included some chicken meat in it, certainly a welcomed addition. In JB, when you order maggi goreng, all you get is maggi mee + egg + vegetables only. I know it cost double the amount I paid in JB too. :P

Food: 7.5/10
Price: 6/10
Service: 6.5/10
Conclusion: They score high on the food due to vast amount of selections on their menu but that doesn't mean their food is bad. They serve very decent Indian Muslim food ! I was so tempted to order each and every one of the items in the menu. Or maybe that's just me, I just have a thing for mamak food. Same applies for those who jam-packed that place when I went for dinner. The pricings are fair but I wouldn't say they are cheap because I can get way cheaper ones back in JB, but its really not a fair comparison. Apple vs Orange, how to compare ?! Just go try it, if you have cravings for some prata. Recommended
