Peperoni Pizzeria is one of the three pizzerias owned by the Les Amis Group. They recently opened their 2nd Peperoni branch at Binjai Park Singapore, with a bar that lines the exterior and a much roomier interior compared to the main outlet at Greenwood Avenue. It's my first time here at the Binjai Park outlet, and they are much more accessible for folks commuting by public transport. On the other hand, the main outlet at Greenwood Avenue is less accessible on foot, probably got to walk 10-15 minutes from the nearest bus stop. Both joints are located in the prime district of Singapore (Bukit Timah) and nestled within landed properties.

This is one of the places where you can get good and reasonably priced Italian cuisine. They serve wonderful thin crust pizzas and if you are there for a gathering with family or friends, you can even order their XXL pizza (21 inches). At least it's something different from the usual suspect, Pizza Hut or California Pizza. They do serve decent pasta as well. Over here you get to choose from the list of Aglio Olio, Bolognese, Carbonara, Vongole, etc etc with a choice of your favourite pasta (Angel hair, Fussilli, Fettucini, Linguine, Spaghetti, Penne). I personally love the thick, creamy Carbonara with Fettucini (I do not recommend ordering it, for people who can't take heavy, cheesy stuffs). On my next trip here, I'm going to try their Seafood Risotto :D

JB Foodie is grateful for receiving an invitation from the Management @ Vino Vino & Mr Wisley, to check out their outlet in Taman Molek. For starter, Vino is Italian for wine & boldly underlines the ambition and direction Vino Vino is heading for.

They feature an extensive selections of wine, sake and soju to those who appreciate the finer things in life.

Smokers will be delighted to know Vino Vino have cordoned off an entire level on the second floor, so that one may eat, drink and smoke to their heart's content.

A sanctuary for booze on the upper deck of Vino Vino.

For consumers who are willing to go beyond RM1500, they have private KTV facilities available.

Marble top, bar counter at Vino Vino.

On the flow draft beer, if wine or liquor is not to your liking.

Introducing the multi-award family of Suntory Whisky.

Japanese soju on the racks, distilled from yam.

A carafe dispenser to keep your sake chilled.

Countless racks of wine, limited only by one's preference.

And from all regions across the globe.

Used wine corks

Wine glasses from RIEDEL - The Wine Glass Company. You gotta be a connoisseur to appreciate this.

Bottled H2O from the hills of Tuscany.

Yakitori on the grill, prepared with the finest ingredient and dedication by the kitchen. A splendid example of paying attention to every minute details, even the coal lighting up the grill was specially imported from Japan.

Grilled vegetables on skewer - Eringi (King trumpet mushroom) & Okura (Lady's finger)
RM3.00 each

Tebasaki (Grilled chicken wings)

Estimated price is to be RM15.00.

If your stomach has room for more after the yakitori, try out their Caterpillar Roll (Avocado, unagi & cucumber).

Cosy, classy and well renovated in every corners, nobody can be faulted if they mistook Vino Vino as a setup for fine dining. On the contrary, they are offering authentic Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price.

Vino Vino can additionally double up as a place to chill out with your friends over some fine wine, sake or soju.

This post on Kin Hua is definitely a late one, something which I have been wanting to write an article on, but never gotten the chance to do so. So I took this opportunity over the long weekend to start my heritage trail within Johor Bahru "old city". First stop, Restaurant Kin Hua. It has been around probably before me and my parents, operating at a corner shop by the junction of Jalan Trus and Jalan Tan Hiok Nee. Day in day out, it has attracted throngs of customers from within the town and tourists.

This is the place we stopped by for a quick lunch en-route to Kota Iskandar and Puteri Harbour in Nusajaya. Reviews from the web on seafood restaurants in Gelang Patah is far and few but I've managed to list out a few. Initially, we wanted to go for Restaurant Tian Lai which is a few metres further down the road but couldn't manage to secure a parking slot, so we did a U-turn and head to Chua Kee instead.

Just to side-track abit and fill you up on my itinerary. A visit to Puteri Harbour and the yachts in the background ...

Over the past weekend, I am fortunate to have my family with me on this exploration trip to MAIO, a well hidden gem tucked into the back seat of M Suites Hotel. I'm pretty confident not much Johoreans are aware of its existence, and hopefully not for long as it would truly be a waste for it to vanish from the local arena.

Finally I can put pen to paper, a long overdue article of Re Della Pasta. This is my 2nd visit to the F&B chain, my 1st was at KSL shopping centre (you can read my article here). Gut instinct from the initial encounter was, Re Della can provide me with the much needed ammunition to conjure a decent review, with its extensive, yet creative range of items on the menu. It can be a daunting task for one to vet through it, facing constant bombardment by names of Italian dishes being hurled towards me. The constant flipping back and forth doesn't help and only adds on to one's dilemma. Having said that, amidst all the dilemmas and confusions, there will definitely be something in the list that will manage to tempt one's palate.

Batu Pahat

Sunday, July 8, 2012

Where can you head to when you start to have craving for decent food in the old city centre of Johor Bahru. Located in the midst of old shophouses along Jalan Dhoby, you can find a little cafe boasting it serves "The Best Chicken Chop in Johor Bahru". Although I do not second that tagline wholeheartedly, but they definitely rank as one of the top in my list. If you still have some time to spare after the meal, you could head opposite where you can find a little Indian bakery, old school stuffs ! According to my Dad (he used to live nearby in the mid 1900s), the little bakery has been around for a long time, ever since he was a teenager.
