JB Foodie is grateful for receiving an invitation from the Management @ Vino Vino & Mr Wisley, to check out their outlet in Taman Molek. For starter, Vino is Italian for wine & boldly underlines the ambition and direction Vino Vino is heading for.

They feature an extensive selections of wine, sake and soju to those who appreciate the finer things in life.

Smokers will be delighted to know Vino Vino have cordoned off an entire level on the second floor, so that one may eat, drink and smoke to their heart's content.

Kirishima Shuzou is a place I have visited for less than 5 times my entire life, putting it in line with some of the franchised Japanese sushi outlets. Not that it is faring badly in any manner, as a matter of fact it is as good as I would have expected. It's just that well, Kirishima just doesn't come naturally first in my head (or my family's) when we think of Japanese food. Could be due to its slightly pricier menu and the ease of us getting there.

Check out the facade of the eatery within Crystal Crown Hotel.

They have VIP rooms for the special occasion too.

I'm not too sure of the dining crowd on weekends, but I am here for dinner on a weekday and it is a cosy place to be at. Enjoying the peacefulness while munching down my plates of Japanese delicacies is priceless. Service is prompt and every customers get their due attention from the staffs.

Katsu Don (カツ丼), an all time favorite Japanese dish for me covered in a thick layer of egg omelette. What not to like ? None. Price is RM18.00

Ten Don (天丼), an assortment of deep fried prawns and vegetables topped on a bowl of rice. Price is RM21.00.

Hokkaido Nabe. One gets a bountiful pot of seafood such as snow crab legs, salmon, squids and prawns. Price is RM68.00

Price: 6.5/10
Service: 7.0/10
Conclusion: Food is above average with a slightly pricier menu, but considering the fact it is located within a hotel then it is something that can be overlooked. Sake lovers would love this joint, as they offer a vast variety of Japan imported sake.

Japanese cuisine has never topped the list of my all-time favourite food, and I wasn't ever prepared to change that. Japanese food in my dictionary is all about sushi, sashimi, fishy items or something light in flavor, a stark contrast to what is acceptable by my tastebuds. Add on to the battered image I've had of Sushi King, Don Sushi, Sakae Sushi and the likes of those franchised Japanese restaurant, skipping the details of my encounters with them ... that's why it has never make it to my chart.

After our karaoke session, we were all hungry and ready to go for the next round of food. There were reviews on forums mentioning some must-visit cafes when going to Kulai. 一风堂 is one of them. We came with high expectations, spotting that rich Japanese themed designs fronting the entrance. From the outside, it looks every bit a classy Japanese restaurant. Venture further in and I was feeling that tinge of disappointment. The inside were designed to look like any cafes with modern contemporary setup, a stark contrast to the facade lined with rows and rows of sake bottles.

An authentic place to have a decent Japanese meal in Johor Bahru. They have a rather extensive menu and quite a selection of sakes as well. I can see they have quite a following of Japanese expats, most probably a place where they can feel right at home after a long day at work or after a golf session.
